Private Label Hoodie Manufacturing in Pakistan: A Complete Guide for US Brands

15 March 2026 · Meridian Textiles

Everything US brands need to know about sourcing private label hoodies from Pakistan — fabric selection, GSM guide, printing methods, sizing standards, and DTC packaging.

The pullover and zip-through hoodie remains one of the highest-volume private label products for US apparel brands, from DTC startups to established college and corporate wear suppliers. Pakistan has become a significant production origin for this category, driven by strong French terry and fleece fabric capacity in the Faisalabad and Sialkot knitting clusters and by competitive full-package garment pricing.

This guide addresses the questions US brand buyers ask most often when evaluating Pakistan for their private label hoodie programme.

CVC vs 100% Cotton: Choosing Your Fabric Blend

The first specification decision is blend composition, and it has downstream effects on weight, hand feel, printability, and price.

100% Cotton French Terry / Fleece: Provides the natural, breathable hand feel that premium and lifestyle brands position against. Cotton is GOTS-certifiable for organic programmes and positions well in sustainability marketing. The trade-off is that 100% cotton fleece is more susceptible to shrinkage and pilling relative to blended alternatives, and it is typically heavier per unit of warmth than CVC. Ring-spun combed cotton constructions minimise pilling and are standard for brands above the $40 retail price point.

CVC (Chief Value Cotton, typically 60/40 or 70/30 Cotton/Polyester): The blend reduces shrinkage, improves dimensional stability, and produces a slightly softer brushed surface at a given GSM. Polyester content makes the fabric marginally more resistant to pilling and maintains colour vibrancy through washing cycles better than 100% cotton. CVC is the dominant blend for mid-market American brands, corporate wear, and institutional programmes where dimensional stability across laundry cycles is a practical requirement. The CVC heavyweight hoodie represents the most exported hoodie construction from Meridian's facility.

Tri-Blend (50/25/25 Cotton/Polyester/Rayon): A softer, drapier hand with a heathered appearance. Popular for fashion-forward brands but less common in Pakistan's production base than in Bangladesh or Central America. Available on request in larger volumes.

GSM Guide: Selecting the Right Weight

Gram per square metre (GSM) is the single most important fabric specification in a hoodie quotation. US buyers frequently receive inconsistent information on this, so here is a practical breakdown:

| GSM Range | Construction | Best For | Retail Price Point | |---|---|---|---| | 280–310 GSM | Light French terry or light fleece | Spring/fall layering, active/athleisure | $25–$45 | | 340–360 GSM | Mid-weight fleece | Year-round fleece, college/corporate | $45–$70 | | 370–400 GSM | Heavyweight fleece | Premium streetwear, cold-weather retail | $70–$120 | | 410–440 GSM | Super heavyweight fleece | Luxury basics, limited-run drops | $100–$180+ |

The CVC heavyweight hoodie at 380 GSM sits in the sweet spot for US mid-premium brands — heavy enough to feel substantial and justify a $60–$90 retail price, but not so heavy that garment weight adds meaningfully to per-unit freight cost.

Weight tolerances should be stated on the purchase order: ±5% is standard. Request a weight test report (in GSM) with each production lot — any reputable Pakistani manufacturer will provide this from in-house QC or a third-party lab.

Printing and Decoration Methods

Screen Printing

The dominant decoration method for hoodies in bulk. Suitable for 1–8 colour designs, solid fills, and high-opacity prints on dark base fabrics. At factory scale in Pakistan, water-based plastisol and discharge printing are both available. Discharge printing (which removes the dye from the base fabric to reveal the colour) produces a soft-hand vintage feel that works well on cotton hoodies; discharge is less effective on CVC due to the polyester content.

Screen printing setup (screen making) involves a one-time charge per colour. This means higher per-unit economics for small runs (under ~150 pieces per design) but excellent per-unit cost for runs above 300 pieces.

Embroidery

Standard for chest logos, sleeve hits, and branded labels on premium programmes. Pakistani cut-and-make facilities have widely available multi-head embroidery machine capacity (Tajima and ZSK machines are common). Embroidery is digitised once per design; digitising charges typically run $50–$100 per design depending on stitch count. Embroidery on thick fleece requires correct stabiliser selection — confirm your manufacturer uses tear-away or cut-away backing appropriate to the fabric weight to avoid puckering.

DTG (Direct-to-Garment)

Not well-suited to bulk factory production in Pakistan at present. DTG is a retail-on-demand technology and is not cost-effective at the order quantities (300 pieces and above) at which Pakistan suppliers are most competitive. Brands requiring DTG should source that service domestically or through a US fulfilment partner after importing blank garments.

Heat Transfer and Sublimation

Available for all-over print programmes on lighter polyester-content fabrics. Less common on heavyweight fleece due to hand-feel impact.

Sizing Standards: US vs EU

Pakistan's apparel exporters produce to both US/Canadian and European size standards. For US brand buyers, specify your size set explicitly on the tech pack:

  • US Standard Men's: XS/S/M/L/XL/2XL/3XL, with body measurements per ASTM D6960
  • US Standard Women's: XS/S/M/L/XL/2XL, per ASTM D5585
  • Youth sizes: Confirm whether you size by age (2T/4T/6) or by measurement

Provide a graded measurement spec in your tech pack. Do not rely on a supplier's "US size chart" without verifying the actual finished garment measurements — size labelling conventions vary and your own brand's fit standards should control.

Key finished garment measurements to confirm: chest width (at 1" below armhole), body length (HPS to hem), sleeve length (CB to cuff), and armhole depth.

Packaging for DTC Fulfilment

US brands shipping DTC from a 3PL or their own warehouse need specific packaging standards that differ from wholesale/retail brick-and-mortar packing.

DTC-optimised packing for private label hoodies:

  • Individual polybag per unit (biodegradable poly options available)
  • Hang tags applied or bagged separately, per buyer's spec
  • UPC barcode on polybag exterior or on swing tag — scannable before opening
  • Pack per size/colour in master cartons with carton content label (PO number, style, colour, size breakdown, quantity, barcode)
  • Some 3PLs require garments packed flat and folded to specific dimensions — confirm your 3PL requirements and communicate to the factory

For brands entering retail (wholesale to boutiques or department stores), EDI compliance and specific ticketing requirements will apply. Confirm these with your retail buyer before placing the production order.

Sample Process and Lead Times

Standard sample timeline for a new private label hoodie development in Pakistan:

  • Proto sample (first fit sample, unbranded): 10–15 business days from tech pack approval
  • Sealed sample (production-representative, with branding): 10–15 business days from proto approval
  • Bulk production: 45–60 days from sealed sample sign-off and deposit receipt

Minimum order quantities typically start at 300 pieces per style/colour for standard constructions. Custom yarn-dye or specialty fabric programmes require higher minimums (600–1,000 pieces).
